In 1994, CCA constructed its first affordable rental housing development in Denton County. Rent in these 28 units in Lewisville is based on a sliding scale, never to exceed 30 percent of household income.
For those who own their own homes, but can’t afford major costly repairs, CCA’s Housing Restoration program renovates homes at no charge. CCA’s volunteers, suppliers and vendors step in to provide a safer home for these families.
Applications for affordable housing are coordinated with the family’s caseworker through the Family Assistance program. To volunteer with the Housing Restoration program, click here to sign into your personal volunteer account and click on housing.
CCA provides subsidized rental homes to 28 families. There are 11 homes at Old Town Crossing on Main Street and 17 homes at Underwood Heights. Residents are charged 30 percent of their gross income.
The 17 homes at Underwood Heights are occupied by families who are given two years to make the transition from CCA housing into decent affordable homes in the community. The clients are provided with the tools necessary to help them make this transition.
The homes located in the Old Town Crossing location are trans-generation homes where clients may reside until they no longer need CCA's assistance. The homes were built with the handicapped or senior in mind—specialized bathrooms, kitchen cupboards, lowered light switches, raised outlets, and 3-foot wide doors. As one resident put it, “It changed the quality of my life in a wheelchair when I moved into my home at Underwood Heights.”
Clients must qualify for these homes through a caseworker who will help them form a plan. Clients form a plan with their caseworker. Clients must comply with the agreed upon plan to remain in CCA Housing.
