Happy Mother’s Day!
Dear CCA, Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms! I pray you have a wonderful day and that you are treated extra special this weekend. At Christian Community Action, our hearts especially go out to single mothers. Single moms are special. Take the plight of Nora, one of the single moms CCA recently helped. She’s a single mother of four and because of COVID-19 was unable to work. Further complications came about when her 12-year-old daughter attempted suicide and later contracted COVID-19. She fell behind with rent payments, was facing eviction, and she went looking for help. “I went to several places to get help with the rent, but they weren’t able to help me,” Nora said. “I felt lost. I thought we were going to have to be homeless. I cried out to God. I felt hopeless. I didn’t know what I was going to do.” Nora came to CCA and spoke to one of our caseworkers, and we were able to assist her with catching up on her rent and even paying a few months ahead. “Your caseworker was like an angel that saved me,” she said. “I’m very thankful to CCA for the help I received. My children and I are safe, my daughter is better, and I’m slowly beginning to work again. I’m so thankful.” Nora is one of 133 single moms that CCA has helped since the start of this year with financial assistance for rent and utilities and with weekly groceries. All their stories are similar. They desire the best for their children and are working hard to make it happen. They just need help – and hope. According to a 2018 Pew Research Center report titled “The Changing Profile of Unmarried Parents,” about one-in-five children (21%) live with a single mother in the U.S. and “among solo parents, mothers are almost twice as likely as fathers to be living below the poverty line (30% vs. 17%).” That’s where you come in. Your donations help secure Nora’s family and other families like hers a place to live and food to enjoy. Would you consider donating to help families alleviate suffering, bring hope and change lives? Thank you for your thoughtful consideration of this request. This Mother’s Day, we salute our moms, and we pray for single moms everywhere. God bless, |
