On MLK day, What Are You Doing For Others?
“Philanthropy is commendable, but it must not cause the philanthropist to overlook the circumstances of economic injustice which make philanthropy necessary.”
– Martin Luther King, Jr.
Today and every day, these powerful words inspire Christian Community Action (CCA) in our mission to alleviate suffering, bring hope, and change lives. They motivate our passionate staff to innovate and invest in creating greater equity and opportunity in our communities for those who are hurting. They drive partnerships with our donors and volunteers and impact nonprofit leaders who share Dr. King’s vision to make justice a reality for all our residents, especially the most marginalized.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day allows us all, as individuals and organizations, to reflect on how we live out the values that our nation honors today. The values of excellence, trust, diversity, dignity, integrity, and servant spirit are central principles guiding CCA’s day-to-day journey toward accomplishing its mission.
Dr. King also said, “The good neighbor looks beyond the external accidents and discerns those inner qualities that make all men human and, therefore, brothers.” Seeking the welfare of our neighbors makes a community stronger, and there is so much more we can do together to end human suffering.
By linking arms across Denton County – right here where we live – we create the hope and opportunity rooted in Dr. King’s dream. Today, CCA honors the philanthropists and community partners investing their time, intellect, and wealth in making justice a reality for all. We call on all to reflect on and recommit ourselves to the inarguable principles for which Dr. King gave his life.
“The time is always right to do what’s right.” – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
