We Are Grateful for Your Response!
|“Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind, for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.” Psalm 107:8-9|
One of the many reasons I came to CCA was because my family and I have lived in this area since 1994 and I had seen countless times how the community responds in times of need. I had this God-inspired hunch that our communities would rally and help hurting families during this difficult time.
Because of your overwhelming generosity, Christian Community Action surpassed its year-end fundraising goal, almost doubling what was needed for 2020. That translates into hundreds of families continuing to be provided with assistance for rent and utilities and with weekly groceries.
We are grateful for your response.
Your response reminds me of the Good Samaritan story that Jesus told when he was asked, “Who is my neighbor?” The master storyteller that he was, Jesus responds with a familiar tale about a man, beaten and robbed, left to die on the side of the road. Two men pass him by, ignoring the hurting man, but a third, a Samaritan, responds with the utmost kindness, care and generosity.
When I read that story, it’s as if I can picture the Samaritan’s face, full of compassion, care and gentleness as he helps the dying man, helping to restore him and going the extra mile to ensure that the man will live. Eugene Peterson, in The Message, writes, “When he saw the man’s condition, his heart went out to him.”
“Who is the neighbor?” Jesus then asked.
“The man who showed compassion.”
You have been that neighbor during these past few months, responding with financial resources and volunteer time to help families in this area, to assist our very own neighbors. Neighbors helping neighbors. You showed compassion. You responded.
Thank you and have a blessed 2021!
